i love to much english langauge so i have vast problem that i cant well speak english ,i am every time try to learn , also because of langauge i couldnt go to university i shuold know porfect english , should hard work until i can capture good result so i hope that you can help me like a good human , good friend in world.

i love this stuff! i’m gonna use it in my class here at univ. (which is in the Phil. by the way) coz we have a call center training and i’m gonna teach about differences b/w american english and british!

I think it is fantastic way to learn more about the British English and American English as well as your way of explanation and your dialoges are very interesting
beside you have a very sense of humor that makes your job easy and comfortable for any learner.

Hi Claire, thanks for listening and for your nice comment. We’ll try to get more in about BE and AE if listeners are finding that interesting. And oh yes, Michael’s had plenty of influence on my AE. I now use some typically BE expressions as if they were “my own” (dodgy and git are two that come to mind). And to Michael’s horror, his “computer” is starting to sound more like “compuder” if he’s not careful, and plenty of my Southern-California-surfer-English slang is creeping into his beautiful British English. Maybe we’ll have to do a podcast about that.
BTW, your teacher needs to lighten (up and get a life, most likely). It’s one thing to inform learners when they run the risk of being misunderstood, but getting angry? Sheesh! Life is too short….

That´s funny, very funny ! LOL! It´s a pity you don´t compare BE and AE more often in your podcasts.My teacher went nuts a couple of days ago, beacuse at school we learn BE and I usually accidentally slip in some word from AE, which someone from Britain would not use in this or that kind of situation and it makes her really angry.
I wonder if you had picked up any words from your friend Michael and caught yourself using it, even though you are not British? Anyway, thanks for another great podcast!

David, you pronounce the “A” in Los Angeles like the “A” in apple. I recorded an answer for you here:

Kristof, I *love* that you did that in class! I hope your T had a sense of humor There are actually several acceptable pronunciations of the word garage on both sides of the pond. In fact, I doubt many native speakers are 100% consistent in how they pronounce it (I know Michael and I aren’t!).

Hi folks, thanks for your podcast(and transcriptions).
I got one question concerning British and American pronunciation differences: When I was in England, someone told me that I was badly pronouncing “Los Angeles”. In fact she pronounced the “A” a little bit like the “u” in “much”, whereas I pronounced it like the “A” in “angel”. Even if she told me that this was the only way to pronounce it, I was convinced that all Americans pronounce it like me. So I wanted to ask if I’m right or not.

Every eraser I ever had eventually broke into two or more pieces. Eventually, in BE, I would have been able to be ever so punny and tell the teacher that “I’m sorry, miss, my rubber is broken …”

Anyway, I’m very happy with this BE/AE thing you’ve got going. I realise that I’m using the AE pronunciation for garage but I use it in the BE sense. And it stroke me as funny to hear you say era[s]er insead of era[z]er.
